I have been working as a psychologist in medical settings, private practice, and universities since 1999. Through my work in these settings, I have developed a philosophy and an approach to therapy that emphasizes my client’s overall health. This includes physical, emotional, behavioral, and mental health. I have experience working with a variety of approaches (cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, ACT, structural family therapy, client-centered therapy, and gestalt therapy) and I integrate these approaches to help clients feel healthier, happier, more confident, and more comfortable in their day-to-day life.
I grew up in southern California and went to college at University of California, Irvine, earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology. After getting my master’s degree in psychology from California State University, Long Beach, I moved to Texas and received my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Texas A&M University. I completed my pre-doctoral internship at University of Washington School of Medicine, in Seattle, and then completed a post-doctoral fellowship at University of California, San Diego.
My husband and I moved to Blacksburg in 2004 and I love the New River Valley and the sense of community I have found here. It has been a great place to live, work, and raise our family. I have worked as an outpatient and in-home therapist for clients throughout Southwest Virginia. In addition, I have worked at Radford University and Virginia Tech University. I am currently a faculty member in the psychology department at Virginia Tech, where I teach undergraduate and graduate courses and supervise clinical psychology doctoral students.
